UAE AUTOX CHAMPIONSHIP 2008

Round 7 of Autox on Feb.1

DUBAI: Round 7 of the UAE Autox Championship 2008, organized by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation, will take off on a pre-defined track at the Emirates Motorplex in Umm Al Quwain on Friday morning, with two of the top three contenders for the overall championship foregoing this round due to prior work commitments.

Fadi Bikawi who leads the pack overall with 85 points and Waleed Afani with a close 83 points in second place will miss this round making way for third-placed Allan Nawfal (79 points) to gain ground in the title chase that will end in mid-April.

Umair Khan and Akram Malas are tied in fourth position with 47 points each going into round seven while Raed Hassan and Joe Dawaliby are in fifth and sixth position overall respectively.

Should Allan have a good run on Friday he stands a realistic chance of topping the overall standings going into the final stages of the championship, though Fadi and Waleed, both tenacious and skilled drivers, could yet give Allan a run for his money in the last three remaining rounds.

Apart from a trophy, the overall winner for the day will receive a 3,000-dirham Pirelli tyre voucher.

According to the official programme released by the organizers on Thursday evening, the first car will hit the track at 10am. The presentation ceremony for the day is expected to be at around 3pm.
