More safe drivers rewarded;
contest moves to Abu Dhabi

RoadStar Contest

DUBAI: With 11 more ‘safe drivers’ on Dubai roads being awarded on Day 2, the annual Caltex RoadStar Contest, the first of two for the current year organized by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF), now moves for the first time to the National Capital, Abu Dhabi, on Wednesday.

The over decade old campaign to promote safe driving was held from May 18-19 in Dubai in association with Dubai Police.

Following were the winners in Dubai on Day 2: Abdul Latif, Abdulla Hassan Galadari, Abdul Wahab, Anwar Rahiman, Sheikha Ebrahim Hazeem, Alphons Lovis Charles, Tarique Jaffer Bhikba, Liladhar Kandel, Birendra Prasad Chaudhari, Ijeoma Ifeonu and Delly N. Thomas.

With the focus now shifting to the National Capital from May 21-22, the Abu Dhabi Police are looking forward to being part of the campaign as was evidenced during a preparatory meeting with EMSF Director for Marketing and Business Development Ms Roshanara Sait and representatives of sponsors on May 15.

The Abu Dhabi Police while pledging their unreserved co-operation noted that RoadStar would further compliment other road safety campaigns that they conduct regularly in the National Capital in an attempt to bring down the number of accidents and resultant injuries and fatalities.

The contest is in its 11th year since its inception and has invested over two million dirhams thus far in a campaign aimed at promoting safe driving where drivers who observe basic principles of good driving such as wearing seatbelts, using child safety seats, using indicators and hands-free mobiles, observe lane discipline and display courtesy in addition to adhering to speed limits come under the organizers’ scanner during the campaign.

Safe drivers are rewarded with 750 dirhams in cash on the spot, gifts and a certificate endorsed by the police of the emirate where the campaign is conducted.

While Caltex is the main sponsor, Lexus (Al Futtaim Motors), AXA Insurance and the International Automobile Touring Club are co-sponsors with Gulf News, Wheels and Radio2 as the media partners.
