DUBAI: A collective field of 38 took to the tacks at the Kartdrome on Friday in the third round of the UAE National Karting Championship 2007, organized by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation, with Fadi Al Aswad, Roy Weyden, Grace Brownlee and Thomas Bale emerging victorious in their respective categories.
Held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Marwan Bin Rashid Al Mualla, the fourth round of the championship will be held after the Christmas break in January with some of the top three contenders in their respective categories sitting pretty.
In the TAG (Heavy) Class, Fadi Al Aswad, placed fourth going into this round, surprised leader John Mace by racing to the top while rookie Joubin Gharaej, who missed the first round, completed the podium with Mace having to be content with second place.
Roy Weyden, who had a disappointing round two, made up for his lapses this time round by topping the podium in the TAG (Light) Class with championship class leader Tim Murdock and second-placed Hasher Al Maktoum finishing second and third respectively.
More upsets were witnessed in the Max Juniors Class with Grace Brownlee making a strong comeback after missing round two to finish on top while Edward Jones and Wafic Abla kept her company on the podium finishing in second and third place respectively. The three, however will have to push harder if they are to catch up with class leader Joe Morritt and second-placed Elliott Patrick.
In the Cadets Class, Thomas Bale finally managed to get the better of his younger rival Riccardo Curatola with the fast-improving lad finishing second for a change while Philip Schoeller continued to make steady progress ending up in third place for the day.
