 Sheikh Hasher triumphs

HasherSheikh Hasher Al Maktoum drove off with the Rotax Max Challenge crown in the UAE National Karting Championship for 2007 securing 433 points against his nearest challenger Scott Latham (409) while Saeed Salah and Ramez Azzam completed the podium in joint third place with 355 points.

Azzam appeared to be a serious challenger to Sheikh Maktoum between rounds one and three having secured 121, 115 and points respectively against the latter’s 120, 114 and 76 points respectively. Sheikh Hasher, however, surged ahead in the fourth round securing full 123 points at stake against Azzam’s 30.

Azzam’s poor showing in the third round in effect cost him not just the first place but he had to surrender the second spot to Latham who scored an impressive 104 points following a disappointing third round where he managed to secure just 73 points.

The final round of the UAE National Karting Championship held at the Dubai Autodrome's Kartdromeon May 25 also signalled the end of the first halfof the racing season for the year.

THE BMW Driving Skills Challenge organized by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation got underway on the sidelines of the 9th International Motor Show 2008 at Expo Centre Sharjah on November 18.

The debut of the five-day event saw 28 competitors of various nationalities negotiate a BMW through a specially set up track in the car park located next to Gate No. 3 of Expo Centre Sharjah.

Khalil Mohammed Khalil, Alaa Said Rahrough and Yasser Ahmed Mohammed walked off with the first, second and third prize with times of 26.01 seconds, 26.91 seconds and 27.06 seconds respectively.

The winners received a trophy and Certina watch each while all participants received a certificate.

The challenge, sponsored by BMW, tests the driving skills of participants and highlights the importance of abiding by traffic rules and regulations.

The driving skills challenge is being held daily from 5pm to 10pm until November 22, the last day of the automobile show.

Pirelli, Certina and Mobil 1 are the other co-sponsors of the challenge.
